How can we help?
Short, honest answers about using Kada. Search, or jump to a topic. Can't find it? Write to me — a real person reads every message.
Getting started
How do I create my first habit?
Open the Habits tab and tap “New habit” (or “Add habit” on an empty Today screen). Give it a name, an icon and a color, then pick a type, a frequency and a time of day. Save, and it appears on Today right away.
On first launch you can also choose “Explore with examples”: eight sample habits with weeks of history, so you can see every screen in action. Remove them anytime from Profile → “Erase all data”.
What’s the difference between Yes/No, Counter and Quantity?
Yes/No is a simple check-off. Counter tracks repetitions toward a daily goal, like 8 glasses of water. Quantity measures an amount with a unit, like 5 km, 20 pages or 30 minutes.
Counters and quantities can also be limits: turn on “Goal is a limit (at most)” for things you want to stay under, such as coffee or screen time. The type can’t be changed after a habit is created.
How do I change the language or switch to dark mode?
Go to Profile → “Language” and choose System, Português, English, Español, Deutsch or Italiano. Light and dark mode live under Profile → “Appearance”.
Is there an Android version?
Yes — Android is in early access through a closed test on Google Play. Anyone can join: see the two steps.
Habits & streaks
Which schedules can a habit have?
Every day, specific weekdays, a number of times per week, or a number of times per month. With weekly and monthly targets, any day counts, and streaks respect your rest days.
“Every N days” schedules (every 2 days, every 3 days…) arrive in version 1.3 — see what’s new.
I missed a day. Is my streak gone?
Not necessarily. Kada has a built-in grace day: for every 7 days you complete, you earn one (you can hold up to 2). When you miss a single scheduled day between completed days, a grace day covers it automatically and your streak survives. The calendar marks that day as “Frozen”.
Two or more missed days in a row end the streak. That mirrors the research: in Lally’s habit study, a single missed day had no measurable effect on forming a habit — giving up after the slip is what hurts.
What does “Skip” do?
Open a habit and tap “Skip” for days you deliberately take off — illness, travel, a planned rest day. A skipped day is neutral, like a rest day: it isn’t counted as a miss, so your streak keeps going, and it doesn’t lower your completion rate.
How is Habit Strength calculated?
Habit Strength is based on the habit-formation curve from Lally et al. (2010): on average a behavior takes about 66 days to become automatic, ranging from 18 to 254 days depending on the person and the habit.
Kada estimates where you are on that curve from your real history. Consistent days push it up; long gaps slow it down and it fades if you stop. When it reaches the top it shows “Automatic”. It’s an estimate, not a verdict.
Can I log or fix a past day?
Yes. In the calendar, tap a day to edit its entries. Entries from the last 7 days can be changed; older days are read-only so your history stays honest.
Reminders & notifications
How do I set up a reminder?
When creating or editing a habit, turn on “Reminder”. Choose “Once” for a fixed time, or “By interval” to repeat between a start and an end time — for example, drink water every 90 minutes from 9:00 to 18:00.
Reminders are scheduled on your device, so they work offline and nothing is sent to a server.
My reminders don’t arrive. What can I check?
Make sure notifications are allowed in iOS Settings → Kada → Notifications. A Focus mode, Do Not Disturb or Sleep can silence them — allow Kada in that Focus. If you use Scheduled Summary, iOS may hold them back until the next summary.
iOS limits how many notifications an app can queue. Kada keeps the next 48 reminders scheduled and refreshes the queue whenever you open the app, so with many interval reminders, open Kada at least once a day or two. After changing time zones, open the app once so it can reschedule.
Widgets
How do I add the Kada widget?
Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen, tap “Edit” → “Add Widget”, search for Kada, pick a size and tap “Add Widget”. It shows today’s progress and the habits you still have left.
In version 1.3 the widget becomes interactive, so you can check habits off right from the Home Screen.
The widget isn’t updating.
iOS decides how often widgets refresh. Logging a habit or opening Kada asks for an update straight away. If the widget still looks stuck, remove it and add it again, or restart your iPhone.
Data, backup & new phone
Where is my data stored? Is it synced?
Only on your device. Kada has no account and no cloud, so nothing is synced between devices. Your data is included in your normal iPhone backup (iCloud or computer).
How do I back up my data?
Go to Profile → “Export data”. Kada creates a JSON backup file you can save to Files or iCloud Drive, AirDrop, or email to yourself.
To restore, use Profile → “Import data” and pick the file. Importing replaces all habits and history on that device, so export first if you want to keep what’s there.
How do I move to a new phone?
Set up the new iPhone with Quick Start or restore it from your iCloud or computer backup — Kada’s data comes along. Or export a backup on the old phone and import it on the new one.
Deleting the app deletes its data, so export a backup before you remove Kada.
Privacy
Does Kada collect any data?
No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. Your habits and history never leave your device. When you’re online the app may check for app updates, which sends none of your habit data.
The details are in the privacy policy.
Tip jar & purchases
What is “Support Kada”? Does it unlock anything?
It’s an optional, one-time tip — a coffee, a snack or a lunch — toward the costs of building Kada. It unlocks nothing: every feature is free for everyone, and there is no subscription. You can give as often as you like, or never.
Why is there no “Restore purchases” button?
Tips are consumable, one-time purchases: they don’t unlock anything, so there is nothing to restore on a new device. Every payment shows up in your Apple Account purchase history, and refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Troubleshooting
A habit isn’t showing on Today.
Today only lists habits that are due that day, so check the habit’s frequency. Archived habits are hidden too: open Habits → “Archived” and tap “Restore”.
How do I start over?
Profile → “Erase all data” permanently deletes every habit and all history — export a backup first if you might want it back. “Replay intro” shows the introduction again.
Something is broken. How do I report it?
Write to carlos.ziegler@zietec.io with your iPhone model, iOS version and what you were doing. Kada collects no logs, so a screenshot or screen recording helps a lot.
